First it was Wise Guys, then Gold!, and then Bounce: many things changed before the show reached a final form in Road Show and, because great expectations were disappointed, the show and score is relegated to being an underrated gem. “Addison’s Trip” takes one of the leading men, Addison Mizner around the world in search of his purpose. Through a fantastic use of theme and variation, the song takes the story and character forward in an 8-minute long musical scene that is a prime example of the kind of dramatic standard set for the musicals by the bench scene in Carousel.
