The Ethel Merman Disco Album

So who has heard The Ethel Merman Disco Album? It is truly awful – but an experience that every musical theatre fan should have at least once in a lifetime. It consists of several of Merman’s hit tunes (from Girl Crazy, Anything Goes, Gypsy, Something for the Boys and Alexander’s Ragtime Band) forced into awfully tacky disco arrangements. It’s hardly something that is going to rack up a record number of play counts on anyone’s iTunes, but it is certainly an interesting novelty listening experience for fans of musical theatre.

Anyone want to share their thoughts on Ethel Merman going disco?

Thank you for telling us about that album. I mean, Ethel looks as though she’s got a super short arm, and the hand and the hat look so strange that I first mistook the hat for some sort of buffing tool, and I thought “Why is some guy chasing Ethel around with a buffer?”, but I’ll bet that the entire album is still priceless, in a sort of “It’s so bad that it’s good” sort of way?

I’m not sure if I’m horrified or in awe of the brilliance. I need to own this.
