RIP Jerry Lieber

Songwriter Jerry Leiber has passed away today at the age of 78. Besides being a hugely successful and influential figure in popular music, Lieber (with his long-time collaborator, Mike Stoller) wrote the many rock ‘n’ roll standards that made up the score of the hit revue Smokey Joe’s Café and co-wrote the score of Broadway’s The People in the Picture last season. I’m going to play my Smokey Joe’s Café cast album in the car today as a tribute to Mr Lieber. See you around the “Neighborhood”, Jerry!

Rest in peace.

  1. I was very saddened to hear this. I had the pleasure of spending time with Mr. Lieber on two different occasions and always found him to be a joyful, energetic fellow who always felt younger than his advanced years.

  2. Aw, poor guy. He’s done a lot for music. RIP
