March 2012 at Musical Cyberspace is all about songs with people’s names in the title.

The first major number of Sunday in the Park with George, following the brief opening that establishes one of the major thematic motifs of the musical is a brilliant piece of character exposition and by the time the more or less six minutes it takes to do the number have passed, we know exactly who Georges Seurat and his apparent muse, Dot, are. Contemporary musicals so rarely managed to establish characters with such detail and, of course, with this number Sondheim is only getting started: a solid foundation for a very emotionally rewarding show.
